I’m likely to decoupage myself out of a marriage. No, really, my husband is such a great sport. When I hung this head the other day (first, I should mention we look across the road into the home of a serious large game hunter with walls full of real taxidermy) I told him to just tell people “you’re married to an artist.”
I’ve been on a deer thing. I saw deer images starting to form in decor trend a few years ago, and now that I’m gearing up for a craft fair in the winter, deer have been on my mind. Shopping around on Etsy, I came across a great store of someone who does this sort of work. That artist is a little more ambitious than me as the antlers are papered too. This head is almost life size, and they’re not cheap if you can find them. I found this resin one bleached out and hanging in the garden area of a home decor store going out of business. Reg. $80, sale 40% off and as of course I asked if they would take $20. Yes! And again, I used pages from that great old handwritten horticulture book that I used on the dress form. It’s a little tough working with heavy paper, or I might have tackled those horns. I don’t have any plans to actually sell these, it’s already being done, I think hanging this unusual deer head is somehow a statement I make to myself: “I have to make sense with the art I create in my day job (graphic design), so I shouldn’t have to explain the art I do on my own time.” (…as long as my husband can stand it : )
