At every thrift store, garage sale or flea market, you can find me making a bee-line straight for anything that even closely resembles vintage office supplies. One thing I never pass up, if itโs priced right (and it usually always is), is vintage typewriter paper. You know, the parchment like stuff with the great pebbled texture that always has a giant watermark pressed into it. Itโs a fantastic for lots of crafts, and in particular, simulating sewing pattern tissue.I used a couple of images I scanned from an old French mail order catalog for this simple idea. These images, which were part of the ordering information, were originally printed on a transparent, tissue-like paper, so you can see some show-through from the other side in my scans which is a major bonus in my book (at least for this project.) I printed the images to the typewriter paper, trimmed out and with spray adhesive, attached them to glass container candles and my glass canister of vintage spools. I love how the glow of the flame can be seen through the image.
For the Printemps image, I printed it to plain paper for a more authentic label look. PLEASE use caution when crafting with paper and candles. Never allow your paper to be above the top edge of the glass container.
Here are the images for you to grab and make something with!
those images are so great! i love what you did with them! i'll have to keep an eye out for the typewriter paper now. have a nice weekend! susan
Oh thank you!! I have stacks of this stuff too. The paper section is my first stop at any charity shop.
I've always been afraid to use it due to the acid content. This project is perfect…as are the images.
Never gave that a thought to look for this stuff…but yes, it would be great for crafting.
Not for archival use tho.
THANK YOU, Rose

OMG Cathe –
Finally, something to do with the old typewriter typing paper I've been saving. I have about 2 packages of this from when I was in high school (a long time ago). My husband kept wanting to throw it out and I would not let him. YEAH, now I can do this project. Fabulous idea.

So cool! I LOVE the ghosting of the images from the other side!
You ROCK!
Very cool. If it was sprayed with that acid-ph-preservation spray {sold at scrapbook stores, art stores, and online} I would think it would hold up just fine. Thanks for the images, Cathe!
Nice works! And thanks for sharing!!!
Love the Printemps one! I used to shop there in the 70's when I visited Paris a lot.
BTW, vellum would work well too.
Thanks for sharing! I'm always inspired by your blog!
what an adorable idea! thanks for sharing!
LOVE THIS!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas! You are amazing!!!! Also, loved the black & white images you shared!!!!! TAHNK YOU! THANK You! THANK YOU!
What a cute idea! I'm so glad I'm not the only person who loves going through the old paper/office supply items at the thrift store! I recently scored some vintage air mail envelopes, and an unopened package of vintage onion skin paper (I think it's the same stuff you used in your project), which I used to make some paper snowflakes & origami projects at Christmas time. Apparently onion skin is somewhat hard to come by these days, so if you can find it in a thrift store, that's great. ๐
You are a crafting genius. Using that old typewriter paper is perfect. I am still in love with the old "onion" paper my father wrote on. I also refuse to throw away my old typewriter carbon paper. Yes I am vintage! Keep creating…
I LOVE it! I've been to Printemps in Paris, so it made me smile even more!

Thank goodness we aren't scouting the same garage/estate sales! Love it!
I'm glad your like the show-through of the patterns. I've struggled with this when scanning some vintage printing as well but I finally decided that it added depth and a little mystery.
Love these images, so much so that a while back I bought one of your small journals covered in the women's version of the paper! My soldering classes are going great–we've been working with broken china lately. See the pictures on my blog:

Cathe, you're the greatest. I admire your beautiful graphic work, your creativity and your generosity. Now, I just have to find time to use all the images and ideas I have found on your site!! You're extraordinary… thanks so much!
What great images, and using that paper must give it a lovely old look. Paper is the magic of adding just the right touch.

Thanks Cathe, you always have great stuff!
I love your work and the vintage flair you used.
Just a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave.com in the Printables category today [03 Mar 01:00pm GMT]. Thanks, Maria
I have been doing some things with papermache body forms – I was until i could no longer find them- and these would have been great on the forms-I did do one with aged copies of vintage clothing- and looked all over for old patten pieces to do on one—-but—-
as so many have said Thanks for sharing -jean

These pages look so good the way you’ve used them. To think I have some of these magazines around and have only “seen” the clothing inside. Now I’ll look closer at the information pages and ads! Thank you – you’re so inspiring!
